“Moments” are short posts of a rather “poetic – existential” taste
FEBRUARY 2020:
[9] What is finally “personal growth”?
** Nowadays, it is a growing fashion to understand the concept of “personal growth” in a vertical sense: going up and up a hard ethical stair towards some vague notion of spirituality, leaving downwardly and behind the usual contradictions of mortality, like: basic needs, body demands, need for physical pleasure of any kind, the so called “negative” feelings and the despairs of existence.
** In contrast, for me, the above picture is very depressive. It implies an unchangeable being struggling neurotically to reach an externally imposed “better” self-image, always feeling inferior to this image, full of shame and guilt.
** So, I think that spirituality is NOT an obligatory pathway for “personal growth” and has little to do with this concept.
** For me, “personal growth” is simply the process of being alive meant horizontally: I am a constantly changing being, learning experientially from my course in life, while attempting to enrich more and more the awareness of my change processes, and while keeping my wholeness of body, feelings and mind.
[10] The unfair life
** We often expect from life just to offer things. We become like huge overfed babies who lie down on their back with an open mouth expecting some passing breast of life to drip drops of milk – or something tangible to emerge from the screens of our mobiles.
** And we complain that all remain flat and dried, thinking that life owes us or that life has to pay us back for what we wished and never got, for what we lost or they robbed us of, for what happened to us when we started in life and we fell down.
** I think that life owes nothing. To nobody. It is us who have to learn gratitude that we can taste life. So let us finally understand fully that the horn of the goat Amaltheia (a magic constantly horn offering goods) , is just a myth.
** Let us understand that the gift is an always evolving process of interaction with things and not the things themselves. Otherwise our jaws will paralyse open, receiving nothingness while expecting something.
** It is not only freedom that requires to be brave and virtuous – to be brave and virtuous is also necessary for each one of our breaths.
[11] Welcomings and goodbyes
** It is said that τo welcome the novelty we have at first to say good-bye to the old. This sounds ok in most cases.
** However, I would also suggest a reversal: at first to welcome the new that I need now, so that I may become able:
** (a) to decisively kick away whatever old I do not at all wish to keep anymore
** (b) to say my painful good-byes to whatever old I heartedly wish to keep for a little longer close to me, or simply to whatever I wish not yet to lose, fearful of that inevitable pain when being torn apart.
