Moments (3)-January ’20 [7,8]

“Moments” are short posts of a rather “poetic – existential” taste

JANUARY 2020:

[7] Time and goals – expecting a non-existing self

** Ιn our times we often feel life running as a 100m runner, who gets never tired. And our so many goals seem to run too, always in front us, always unrealised. Moreover, our goals have two very bad habits: (a) just at the moment we touch them, we sense they seem very different from how we have imagined them to be, (b) they get immediately replaced by new equally unrealised goals.

** And we end up living a constant expectation of a life that “will” come but now is only a fantasy. And we flirt with depression complaining that time is not enough.

** But even if we lived 300 years, the same would happen. It is not a matter of time. It is a matter of goals.

** We live in a new order, “within” the screens of our mobiles. And in there we seem shrinking and never being good enough. Therefore we name “goals” to become so as to fit in the 2 dimensions of our screens.

** However we are already falling through the neck of our hourglass, which keeps on counting both our available time in this beautiful life, as well our thoughtlessly spent time.

[8] On what is called “identity”

** When we speak of a person’s psychological “identity” we often mean someone who is strong in life, self confident and dynamic behavior.

** Just as often we tend to think that we acquire “identity” by adding on us some special features. We think that “identity” is a result of ad-ons, of extensions, of plug-ins – usually associated to what society acknowledges as “values” associated with “success”.

** However, we could see “identity” more as a matter of “how I am what I am” and not of “what I think I must become”.

** Consider though that “I am” is something always evolving. It is lively being in the world, present in my flow of experience moment by moment.

** So, “identity” has not much to do with my components themselves. Rather, “identity” has to do with how I combine, how I orchestrate, how I dynamically harnonize my features, so that I can authentically produce my own development.

** I would say that “identity” seems to be more a matter of “how” I am and less of “what” I am. So that awareness of “how” I am may give birth to the each next shinning “what” I am.
